RESPONSE Project Convenes First Steering Committee Meeting with Key Stakeholders

The National Environment Service (NES) successfully convened the inaugural Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting for the RESPONSE Project on 11 March 2026, bringing together key stakeholders to guide the strategic direction and implementation of the initiative.

The meeting marked an important milestone in advancing collaborative efforts to address plastic pollution and reduce reliance on single-use plastics across the Cook Islands. Representatives from government agencies, partner organisations, and key sectors participated in discussions focused on strengthening coordination, aligning priorities, and ensuring effective delivery of project outcomes.

The PSC meeting concluded with the successful approval of the 2026 Annual Work Plan, Project Inception Report, and project budget. In addition, members endorsed the proposed eligibility criteria for target beneficiaries, ensuring a clear and transparent framework for project support moving forward.

It was agreed that PSC meetings will be held on a biannual basis to monitor progress and provide strategic oversight. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for September 2026, where stakeholders will review implementation progress and key achievements.

The RESPONSE Project continues to play a vital role in supporting national efforts to reduce plastic pollution, promote sustainable practices, and safeguard the Cook Islands’ environment for future generations.
