After more than a decade of hopes for a dedicated and improved workspace, the newly renovated National Environment Service (NES) Office on Mitiaro has been completed.
The office provides a welcoming, safe and fit-for-purpose space to serve the Mitiaro community, where the NES Environment Officer can confidently carry out their work, engage with the community and stakeholders, and support environmental programmes and initiatives across the island.
NES acknowledges the Mitiaro Island Council, which generously provided the office space and supported the establishment of a dedicated working environment for the Environment Officer.
Bringing the project to completion required commitment and teamwork. Special appreciation goes to the Executive Officer for the dedication and support shown throughout the project, as well as the carpenters who worked on the ground to complete the renovations. Recognition also goes to the experienced carpenter from Rarotonga who supervised the works and helped ensure the renovation was completed with skill and care.
For those who have worked on Mitiaro and witnessed the condition of the office over the years, the transformation represents a significant milestone. What had been spoken about for more than ten years is now a completed project that will benefit the Environment Officer and wider community for years to come.
Having a safe and appropriate workplace will allow the Environment Officer to continue serving Mitiaro with greater comfort, dignity and confidence, while strengthening NES’s presence and ability to support environmental work on the island.
