The Mangaia Dome was buzzing with energy and purpose as it hosted the 2025 Mangaia Careers Expo, a milestone event that brought students, government leaders, and workplace representatives together to inspire the next generation of workers and leaders.
The event was organised by Anaseini Pokino, Careers Teacher at Mangaia School, and featured a strong turnout from both the local community and national organisations. A total of 21 exhibitors took part, with a mix of Mangaia-based departments and agencies from Rarotonga.
The Careers Expo was officially attended by Secretary of Education Owen Lewis and Minister of Education Mac Mokoroa, whose presence was warmly received. Their visit signaled a strong commitment from the Ministry to support career development initiatives across the Pa Enua.
“This is where our children build dreams, this is where they carve their future, and all we as a community do, is to support them,” said Michael Papatua, Principal of Mangaia School, during his opening remarks.
Exhibitors from Mangaia included the Island Administration, Infrastructure Department, Public Utility, Agriculture, Cultural Development, Marine Resources, Bank of the Cook Islands, Te Marae Ora, Internal Affairs, Mangaia Television, T’s Production, and Papatua Productions.
Representatives from Rarotonga included the University of the South Pacific (USP), Cook Islands Tourism, Atui’anga Ki Te Tango (AKTT), Development Coordination Division of MFEM (DCD MFEM), Red Cross, Climate Change Cook Islands, and the National Environment Services (NES), many of whom were also supporting their local officers stationed on Mangaia.
Booths were well-prepared, offering demonstrations, promotional materials, and giveaways to engage with students and community members. The Climate Change Cook Islands and NES booth was awarded “Most Engaged Booth”, receiving a $200 voucher sponsored by P&P Aberahama Store.
More than just a school event, the expo became a unifying experience for the island. Parents, elders, and youth came together under the roof of the Mangaia Dome, reaffirming the strong support system available to Mangaia’s students.
The 2025 Mangaia Careers Expo was hailed by many as a resounding success, one that not only showcased opportunities but also highlighted the strength of community support behind every student’s future.
