On Global Recycling Day, 18th March, the National Environment Service (NES) celebrated Sabine Janneck of Circle Cook Islands a dedicated recycling champion in the Cook Islands. Her efforts in creating unique up-cycled products from discarded plastic, wrappers, inflatables and dedication to sustainability led to her nomination for the Global Recycling Foundation’s Recycling Heroes of 2025 initiative, a competition that honours change makers transforming waste into opportunity.
Sabine’s work stood out among global nominees, she was selected as one of just 20 winners worldwide. As part of this recognition, Sabine receives a $500 USD prize and be featured on the Global Recycling Foundation’s media platforms, inspiring others to take action. Her winning video showcases her efforts throughout the years and promoting of circular solutions.
As Global Recycling Foundation Founding President Ranjit Baxi emphasised, “We want to recognise Recycling Heroes for their outstanding contributions. The world needs more innovators, leaders, and communities to step up and drive change.”
NES congratulates Sabine on her well-deserved recognition and her efforts to reduce waste from ending up in the landfill through circular solutions.
