As we step into 2026, the Project ENUA team is excited to continue progressing important conservation work with Te Ipukarea Society (TIS), engaged as consultants for Takutea and Suwarrow environmental management planning.
TIS is a local environmental NGO with years of experience protecting the Cook Islands’ unique ecosystems and working with communities. Their knowledge, networks, and local expertise make them the perfect partners to help progress Project ENUA’s conservation efforts.
On Takutea, TIS is supporting efforts to ensure the island is managed sustainably, with a focus on protecting its wildlife and habitats. For Suwarrow, TIS brings a long history of on-the-ground experience and a strong understanding of the atolls ecological and cultural significance.
For NES, this work is about delivering real benefits for both the environment and local communities linked to these islands. Takutea and Suwarrow are ecologically significant and culturally important places, and their protection requires approaches that are practical, informed, and locally relevant. Through this consultancy, Project ENUA is supporting management that balances conservation with sustainable use, guided by local knowledge, scientific evidence, and community priorities.
Since the consultancies were signed, steady progress has been made, and we are looking forward to the work ahead. As the TIS-led activities continue, we will be sharing further updates along the way.
