We are thrilled to announce another significant step in our commitment to protecting and conserving our environment. NES officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the non-government organisation Muri Environment Care Group (MEC) last month. This marks the ongoing collaborative efforts to support and enhance environmental conservation within our communities.
The purpose of this MOU is to establish a strong relationship between NES and MEC, allowing us to work together on shared interests and unite our efforts around shared environmental priorities that resonate with our community’s needs. By combining our resources and expertise, we aim to achieve our common goals more effectively and sustainably.

Both NES and MEC are committed to open communication and sharing information to achieve the goals of this MOU. We will work together on practical projects that support our plans and focus on creating a healthier environment for everyone.
MEC plays a vital role in addressing key community issues related to the environment including promoting sustainable practices and fostering harmony between our community and the environment. MEC also builds partnerships with other like-minded organizations to strengthen conservation efforts and focuses on improving skills and seeking support for projects.

NES & MEC identified several key areas where we’ll work together to make a difference in our community. First, we’ll concentrate on localized environmental care, collaborating on projects like conserving waterways and catchment areas, especially in the Muri area. Community events will raise awareness about these local environmental issues. Second, NES will train MEC on using the Cook Islands Environmental Data Portal, allowing us to effectively manage and share crucial information about our ecosystems. This knowledge will help us make better decisions for our environment. Lastly, we’ll work together on communication efforts to emphasize the importance of a healthy environment. Through social media and press releases, we’ll keep everyone informed and engaged in our joint initiatives.

This MOU is a great opportunity for us to create a healthier environment and build a stronger community together. We’re excited about what lies ahead and look forward to collaborating with all of you. Keep an eye out for updates on our initiatives, and thank you to Muri Environment Care for your ongoing support in this important effort.
